RC Airplanes

Flying RC airplanes are among the most exciting and rewarding ways to spend your free time. There is something that’s really wonderful about piloting small planes which seem to defy gravity and can sail through the skies like majestic eagles. The only problem is, if the airplane stalls while flying, it’s no longer going to defy gravity.

An RC plane can stall when the angle of ascent increases and causes the aircraft lift to decrease. This is why airplanes can’t continuously climb higher at steep angles without losing thrust. Stalling is a part of flying model airplanes and although it is a scary experience, trained pilots won’t have any trouble dealing with it.

Depending on what type of aircraft you are flying, there are different things which come into play whenever the engine stalls. High-winged aircraft have gentle stall related characteristics. This is why they are recommended for beginners. A plane’s balance can greatly affect the way in which it stalls. In warbird type planes, it is quite common to see tip stalls where airplanes roll dramatically to a side while stalling. This is surprising and sudden and pilots usually aren’t ready for it.

If your airplane stalls, don’t panic. Keeping your cool is essential if you want to attempt to save your plane. Smart pilots can test the stall speed and the characteristics of their planes intentionally instead of learning about it the hard way. What’s more important to remember here is speed. The plane is likely to stall because there isn’t enough speed to keep it at the current flying angle. Help the plane along while throttling up if you want to get more thrust. When the nose drops, don’t pull back even though you feel like it. This only makes the stall worse. Instead, increase the throttle while letting the plane level out and then pull the elevator slowly.
